FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Arnprior Rivermen Make Massive Splash, Sign Former NHL Forward Ryan Spooner ARNPRIOR, ONTARIO — The Arnprior Rivermen are thrilled to announce the official signing of former NHL forward and Ottawa native, Ryan Spooner, for the upcoming season.

A Proven Track Record of Excellence

Drafted in the second round (45th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Boston Bruins, Spooner brings an elite professional pedigree to the Rivermen. Throughout his impressive NHL career, the dynamic playmaker skated in 325 regular-season games, accumulating 48 goals and 119 assists for a total of 167 points. He spent the majority of his NHL tenure as a key offensive contributor for the Bruins, while also suiting up for the New York Rangers, Edmonton Oilers, and Vancouver Canucks. Following his time in the NHL, Spooner continued to produce at a high level internationally, serving as an offensive catalyst over several highly successful seasons in the KHL, as well as making stops in Switzerland and Slovakia.

What Spooner Brings to the Rivermen

Spooner is a high-IQ forward known for his elite vision, exceptional puck-handling, and power-play expertise. He will instantly become a cornerstone of the Rivermen's offense, providing top-tier puck distribution and game-breaking speed. Beyond his on-ice skills, Spooner brings invaluable professional experience to the locker room. Spooner’s ability to control the pace of the game will elevate the performance of the entire roster.

All-In on Amazing Hockey

This blockbuster signing is a definitive statement of intent from team owner Adrian Moyes. Securing a player of Spooner’s caliber proves that the Arnprior Rivermen are unequivocally "all in" this season. The organization is deeply committed to competing for a championship and delivering the most thrilling, high-quality hockey experience possible to the passionate fans in Arnprior.

Welcome to the Rivermen, Ryan!

A Message from Team Owner Adrian Moyes

It has been nearly a year since I lost one of my oldest and closest friends, Andrew "Sunshine" Stevenson, far too soon. Over the past year, I have done a lot of soul-searching and reflecting on the time we spent together doing the things we loved. I have been trying to find a meaningful way to honor him and ensure that his light shines on forever.

While our VIP Rivermen Beer Garden has only been operating for a single game, I realized I needed to give it a greater purpose.

Effective immediately, and for as long as the Arnprior Rivermen take the ice, our VIP seating area will officially be known as the Andrew "Sunshine" Stevenson Fan Zone.

Andrew, I know you are sitting up there with a cold drink, watching every game, every Saturday night. This new space will allow the people who loved you to share another drink with you and watch the game we all live for.

Beyond the name change, I want to make sure Andrew's spirit actively impacts our hometown. Going forward, the Arnprior Rivermen will donate $2 from every VIP ticket sold to the Arnprior Minor Hockey Association to help less fortunate families enroll their children in hockey. I know Andrew would want everyone to have the opportunity to experience the game. On top of the team's ongoing donation, I will personally match that amount dollar-for-dollar so that, together, we can get even more kids on the ice.

I love and miss my best friend. Even though your light was taken from this world way too soon, the Sunshine Fan Zone will live on forever and provide a lasting light for our community.

Thank you, Adrian Moyes Owner, Arnprior Rivermen

🚨 BIG NEWS, RIVERMEN FANS (And no, we aren’t folding!) 🚨

First off, you can all exhale. We know that somber teaser had some of you sweating bullets, thinking this was the end of the line for the Rivermen. Far from it. But we do have a massive shift coming to the organization. After an incredible run, Mike Byrne is officially stepping down as Head Coach of the Arnprior Rivermen.

Mike is a Day 1 guy. He has been the absolute backbone behind our bench since the very beginning, holding down the title as the longest-serving head coach in the entire league. Over his 6 seasons at the helm, his impact on the ice has been undeniable, earning him League Coach of the Year honors an incredible 3 times. He built the foundation and the culture of what this team is today.

For Team Owner Adrian Moyes, Mike’s impact goes far beyond the stats and the accolades.

"If it weren't for Mike, the Rivermen likely never would have existed, and we definitely would have folded years ago," Moyes shared. "I am very, very thankful for the countless hours Mike puts into this team. Honestly, our daily hockey messages are the highlight of my day some days. Beyond the rink, the friendship we’ve made running this adventure together will last forever, and I’ll always be super thankful for that."

But before anyone hits the panic button—he isn’t going anywhere.

Mike is staying right here in Arnprior and will be dedicating his full focus to his role as the team’s General Manager. He’s going to keep grinding, recruiting, and pulling the strings from the front office to make sure we ice the best possible roster.

Why the change? Sometimes you need to inject some new fuel behind the bench. Stepping aside allows us to bring in a fresh voice and new energy to lead the boys on the ice, while Mike continues to mastermind the ultimate squad off the ice.

Join us in thanking Mike for his absolute dedication, grit, and loyalty as Head Coach, and get ready for a huge new chapter for Rivermen hockey!

THE SEASON IS ON THE LINE 🚨 The regular season is in the books, and now it’s "win or go home." We head into a 1-game elimination showdown this Tuesday night. • Opponent: The Rapids • Location: Low, QC • Time: 7:45 PM • The Stakes: Win, and we move on to a home-and-home series against Manotick next weekend. Lose, and the season is over.

WE NEED YOU IN LOW! 📣 Rivermen fans, we’re calling on you to make the trip, pack the stands, and be our 7th man on the ice. Let’s keep this season alive! #RivermenHockey #PostSeasonPush #WinOrGoHome #LocalHockey

Arnprior, we need to have a serious conversation. Tonight at 7:30 PM against the South Grenville Rangers might be the last time you see the Rivermen on home ice.

Beyond just the scoreboard, tonight is about something bigger. We need to see 350+ people in the Nick Smith Centre to prove that Arnprior is still a hockey town that actually wants a team here. It is a massive struggle to keep local hockey alive without the community's energy and presence in the stands.

The Reality: Tuesday Night: We head to Low for a do-or-die, one-game play-in. If we don’t win that, our season is officially over.

Tonight: This is your chance to show the league, the players, and the town that the Rivermen belong in Arnprior.

It’s freezing outside, but it’s warm in the rink and the action will be fast. If you’ve been "meaning to get to a game," tonight is the night. No more excuses. SHARE this post and tag a friend who needs to be there. Let’s fill the barn, make some noise, and show everyone that we aren't ready to say goodbye to Rivermen hockey. ⚓🔥
